Brown alum presents "The Iliad in 30 minutes"

Benjamin Nacar ('12) will be presenting a program of original compositions entitled Dreams of Homer. Concerts will take place in March (the afternoons of the 14th, 15th, and 16th), at RISD and at the Cogut Center.

Nacar writes:

The program will consist of two of my own compositions, and one of them, which I am still writing at the moment, is titled "Homeric Rhapsody." It is inspired by a selection of scenes from Books 1-4, 9, 16, 18-20, 22 and 24 of the Iliad, which together present (I hope) a reasonable abridgement of the original narrative. It is a work for solo violin and orchestra, though for the occasion of the premiere in March I will be performing a piano reduction of the orchestra part. Maya Ramchandran '15, probably the most brilliant undergraduate violinist I've worked with, will be the soloist.
