Classics Junior Concentrators Elected to Phi Beta Kappa

Phi Beta Kappa (ΦΒΚ) is the oldest and most prestigious academic honors society in the United States.

It encourages intellectual distinction among undergraduates by recognizing “outstanding academic accomplishment in the course of a broad liberal education.”

The Classics Department is proud to announce that Justin Chiang and Zoe Mermelstein (both class of 2021) have been elected to the Rhode Island Alpha of Phi Beta Kappa!

The Rhode Island Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa was founded at Brown University in 1830.  Eligible students can be considered for election as a junior as long as they have competed twenty courses over five semesters at Brown. Students must also receive at least eighteen A’s or S’s with distinction in these courses, with 40% of the courses being in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and/or pure mathematics.

Congratulations to Justin and Zoe on their achievement.
