The Department of Classics is pleased to announce that Isabella Grunberger-Kirsh has won the
Joukowsky Family Foundation Outstanding Dissertation Award for 2024-2025. Ella’s
dissertation, The Memory-Writers: A Social and Intellectual History of Shorthand in Late
Antiquity was rightly cited by the selection committee as a distinguished and illuminating work
of scholarship. The Brown Classics community congratulates Ella on this signal, and richly
deserved, award.
