Classics at Brown incorporates the rich diversity of eastern and western traditions. I wanted to emphasize the aesthetic qualities that gesture towards a classical Greek past alongside a classical Indian past. My design makes use of my artistic 'spolia,' foregrounding an older illustration of a vase depicting Arion against a more recent wallpaper design that makes use of several relics of the Mughal period. The symbolism of the various elements, to me, is rather secondary to creating an aesthetic unity between these eastern and western influences, where the colors and patterns coalesce into an ornate, cohesive, and, dare I say, wonderful mess.
